I have been asked by my son not to get on here and engage the internet trolls, but here is what I have to say. Once my parenting starts getting questioned, I’m going to stoop to the low levels of the men that hide behind screen names. Xaiden has a 4.0 GPA and has his entire school career. Xaiden is playing 3 sports. Lacrosse, Golf, and wrestling (which he puts the most time towards) He is involved in Young Life is a Christ-centered ministry that helps kids know Jesus, grow in their faith, and serve Him. So, for all of you GROWN MEN that hide behind a keyboard and tarnish his reputation or any reputation of an athlete. I would like to say LOOK IN THE MIRROR!!!! He is not perfect, but what teenager is?!? I think that sometimes you all forget that these athletes are CHILDREN. Now I kindly ask that you move on to the rest of the state of Virginia wrestlers and how you badly predict the outcomes of matches. Oh, and for those that say it wasn’t a pin, he has 80 pins in his high school matches. So, I’m guessing by the amount of hate on here your kid was probably one of them 😊 GOD BLESS and our family will see you next season! All of mom’s statements are irrelevant! Her sprinkling sugar doesn’t make his actions justified. Just saying! His actions were trash along with the Joe Biden style ref! I normally vouch for Wynn in most circumstances, but his mom posting is kinda funny. Nothing she said is to the topic of the match. She just said he is a good kid, which was not being questioned. I’m just saying, I never saw a shoulder check, just an accidental bump from him when he was clapping… As for the cussing that was accused at him, why would you cuss your opponent out or shoulder check, especially after pinning him in a spladle. (regardless if it was a pin or not, still woulda been 7-0, and Wynn in control of the match). Mr Harrell should check up with his son and make sure his son is telling him the truth, or if his son is playing the victim card.

I know who this ref is and he is a good ref. BUT, he should disqualify himself from ref'n, not only JR matches, but the entire class that JR wrestled in the state tourney. This guy does a good job and I really don't think he would be partial towards JR in any manner. However, as a former NCAA basketball official for 25 years and an observer for the ACC I must say that any appearance of impropriety, whether justified or not, should be avoided. The job is thankless enough without putting yourself in that type of situation. Do you have idea how many refs would have a conflict of interest if they looked at what schools they graduated from or coached at before becoming a referee or have relatives in wrestling? The former coach at Rural Retreat refs matches all over. He is a good ref. Should he not ref any 1A matches and we all know some of their rivals are 2A so again should he be disqualified? No it's stupid. I know many refs that went to schools in the area where they now referee. It would be a nightmare to try and manage. Think it through people.

So out of the 20+ refs, they can't stop conflicts of interests? Comon' man. It's not the fact of how many refs come from other schools. It's also how close they remain to the school. The mentioned ref was even getting visibly upset after a JR kid loses and talking about their "strategy" before the matches.

The uncle of a James River Wrestler who is still actively competing should not be reffing matches in 2A. What if James River was ever in a team title race? He could play a factor in that. What if he was still butt hurt on how a match played out with his nephew that year or in years past. That could play a factor also.
Now after being at every state tourney since 2013 (minus 2021) I think he’s a very very good ref. One of the best
I personally just don’t think he should do 2A

He was assigned. trophies4all I bet a James River wrestler beat you or your wrestler at some point as you just circle back to JR over and over and never positive.

Where the ref went to school or has nothing to do with the statement I made above. He has a close relative as a top wrestler on JR and YES I think that should make a difference in his choices. When I ref'd high school basketball I had two daughters who cheered. I "scratched" that school until they graduated. I had a son that played football and baseball and I scratched that school until he graduated also. PLUS I scratched myself from any post-season tournaments the two schools participated in. I worked the state tournament many times including the final four 10 times. Neither of these schools never made it that far, but if they had, I would have not had any problem whatsoever scratching their class in a heartbeat. It's not that I was afraid I would give an advantage to those teams, it was a matter of not casting any doubt on the integrity of the profession where everybody already thinks they are a bunch of "homers". Unfortunately, to some people, perception is reality.
