He's a good ref locally, I will not expose who it is but we'd be at a loss. Doing a different division seems logical.

Just my two cents, but this Wynn kid has a ton of haters. My older boy played another sport with him a few years back and he was always respectful. When we run into him he always shakes my hand and calls me sir. Can’t imagine him being a big smack talker. He puts a lot of heart and training into wrestling even in the off season while playing others sports. Give the kid a break! You can agree to disagree. I get on here for the comic relief and the bad predictions. I agree Wynn is a nice kid. This forum does give him a lot of slack for some reason. Many other kids that could have their wrestling career knit picked. Just his teammates alone Forbes only relies on his athleticism doesn’t put in much extra. I have never seen his name on track for a big off season tournament. Stewart not only did he not deserve to make it to the finals, but his father/coach doesn’t seem to coach well and loses his cool often in meets. Lastly, the Forbes family can get pretty rowdy if a match isn’t going their way. Every year we have athletes that do unsportsmanlike activities, however when our team is at a tournament with JRHS that Wynn kid is usually walking around socializing with all other teams not trash talking. To say that Forbes didn't put in much work is just a lie Sugarfoot. He went to 2 clubs all summer, fall and even during the season. Many weeks that was wrestling 7 days a week with either a tournament or practice on Saturday I know as I drove him along with other family members the 1.5 hours one way to Machine Shed nearly every Sunday. He can do more tournaments and I hope he does this year, but he did work all last year. Lifting weights is off season work as well right? He also held down a full time job in the summer. As far as being rowdy, we support ALL team wrestlers and some on other teams. Just because we have a vocal family and a have good numbers doesn't mean rowdy. I'd say we have improved every year and if someone does fall short it would be addressed. You have examples? What happened Saturday was unprovoked according to my information, the police/civic center staff and the same as sucker punching someone except they kicked and swung a pocketbook.

Check out locking hands call on 157 Strasburg Bracken v Richlands in consi semi...never knew that was locking hands before. Had some questionable calls in a match my kid wrestled (although Im not blaming him for the loss like some of our fans,, I told mine no excuses, can't let the ref decide it for you). Also family members should not be reffing matches in the same division as the kid competes period. He just be upset that his nephew got destroyed in a match and try to play a part in the outcome etc. That’s a very bad look. I overheard someone talking about that in 2A matches. They said he tries not to ref the JR matches. But he does ref the other kids where he can decide the outcome of who they will wrestle. If there is that much of a conflict, he need to ref one of the other 2 divisions, or maybe, not at all at state? Not sure which one he is thou so he may be a good ref we'd hate to lose.

Can't you just get a Flo account and go back and watch the match to see if it was dirty/bad call/missed call?

Forbes is the best wrestler at 120 but not by much. He has the best neutral game out of the 4. If he can consistently get up without getting turned, he will be state champ next year.

I mean we can but, but we can't use video in vhsl events to question refs calls Can't you just get a Flo account and go back and watch the match to see if it was dirty/bad call/missed call?

I didn’t say he wasn’t talented because he is athletic. James River Wrestling is overrated. Go to harder tournaments and then we can talk about how much work he puts in.

Oh- Yes I agree...I meant for your own knowledge and peace of mind. Sometimes when we see things from a different angle it helps our perspective. I watched the Wynn match and nothing seemed too crazy....

I know that ref and it would be a big loss but he usually doesn’t ref 2A at State. Maybe they needed him there this year who knows but he always removes himself from any of the JR matches and outcome matches like at Big Orange. The dad of one the JR kids said they don’t like him to call their matches because he’s harder on their kids. I ain’t seen him involved in any bad calls/upsets so must be a good one.

He did only get turned 1 time this season in the state semi final. That he didn't have many tough matches could have been a factor. Only 4 kids scored any offensive points on him all year. I do think more tougher matches during the season would have helped. He did beat Starnes (3A runner up) and Ramsey (3A 4th place) and Wimer (3A 6th) place as well. If you have Flo check out his semi match when he was about to score a takedown had Owsley up over his head was trying to half him and it got called potentially dangerous. Probably a bad call and we the coaches choosing natural was a bad choice. That was my fault and it will haunt me for a long time. He should have went down there in a close match. We can't take those things back and he took him loss like a man and came back strong and got 3rd.

I thought it was an interesting choice to choose neutral because there’s still plenty of time. I figured the only reason Forbes chose neutral because he was concerned he might not get up at all. The potentially dangerous call was tough, Owsley got a major break there.

I will not hide behind a screen name like most keyboard warriors on here. I don’t post on here because I come here for the entertainment value alone. Nothing anybody says on here matters. Kameron Harrell is my son and we do not condone his part in the post-match activity. Believe me, it is being addressed. Any of you that know him, know this was out of character.
Anyone who thinks for a second that his opponent is innocent in this situation is sadly mistaken. Let’s review the facts of the match before we all cast stones. • I do not know or have heard anything about taunting before the match. If I am mistaken, I am open to correction. • James River kid was clearly and obviously taunting during the match. Don’t believe me, watch the video. • JR posted “To say it was good match seems off as well as the James River wrestler was dominating and had earned 2 sets of back points already.” Not sure what match you were watching. The score was 2-0 when Wynn hit a beautiful spladle and got the pin. Was it a pin? Some say yes. Some say no. It doesn’t matter what any of us think, the ref called pin, so it’s a pin. Either way, if the ref hadn’t called pin, that is a 5-point move and my son would have had a tall task in front of him. • After the match my son returned to the center ahead of Wynn. Wynn intentionally shoulder-checked my son as he made his way to the center. Don’t believe me, watch the video. • Not only was there a should check Wynn called my son a “Pu$%y”. • Yes, my son then lost his composure. As happens in all sports the retaliation is what everyone sees not the instigation that led to it. • Notice there was no unsportsmanlike conduct or team points deducted. Because the referee is the only one who hears directly what is going on. • I don’t want to make excuses for my son but if anyone shoulder checks me and calls me a “Pu$%y” not sure I or ANY OF YOU would have reacted any differently.
Now let’s discuss the podium. Please direct your attention to the stands and the Randolph Henry team. Yelling, cussing, and flipping the bird to my son. So much so that and an elderly couple in the area employed the Poquoson AD to intervene. I have no idea what provoked them. I can only speculate, and speculation adds no value. Again, not condoning my son talking back, he must have thicker skin.
I don’t know Wynn and have never spoken to him. I am sure he is a nice kid. As is Kam. Both young men need to reevaluate their actions. Win and lose with class. I promise you on the Harrell side it is being addressed. Anyone that cares to discuss the facts and not speculation from the stands where your view is obscured, and you have no audible context. I welcome that conversation, but not from behind a keyboard.

Mr Harrell, I was a little off on my 2 sets of back points, but it would have been 7 to 0 if your son got out of the Spladle. I also saw where Wynn got on top as they went out of bounds earlier and that I might have got mixed up. I was trying to watch 2 matches at once the 2A and 3A finals. After watching the match again I do believe they bumped, but I'm not sure it was intentional as Wynn was looking into the stands and clapping his hands. Based on all I saw they both get a mulligan and I hope both can learn from it. Time to move on and get ready for next season. Oh one more thing, the pin was called by a ref I heard was considered one of the top refs in the state. Sure he could have missed it, but he looked pretty sure on the call. He is not a Region C ref either for all the conspiracy people out there. Your son is a very good wrestler and if he is at 106 next season I think he probably wins.
