Is it just me, or are this year's VAWA Freestyle championships unusually STACKED?
By my rough count, there are 24 VHSL/VISAA champs in the field (I may be missing a few), and another 2-3 dozen state finalists or VAWA Kids champs wrestling in Cadets. Juniors 120 alone has four champs registered. Is this because:
a) COVID has more guys wanting to compete this spring?
b) It's an Olympic year and more guys are attracted to the international styles? c) It is always like this and I'm just betraying my ignorance? (The field certainly wasn't this strong at VACW SuperStates).

My guess is a lot of reason "a)" and a tiny bit of reason "(c)". A lot of guys missed there Folkstyle season and they are hungry to wrestle. This tournament is usually stacked with the top talent in the Commonwealth and the guys that wrestle year round want to prove themselves in state before heading off to Southeast or Northeast Regionals.
Unfortunately for VACW States, they have never marketed themselves the right way to the guys that are winning their weight class in their respective classification. If they truly wanted a "for all the marbles" tournament they would hold it a week after States and the weights would be scratch +2 and the entry fee would be free to the champs.

I swear I didn't see this post when I posted mine yesterday. I agree with mvmm20. The 138lb bracket had 3 guys that could potentially medal in Fargo IMO.
