My 7 yr old (2016) has been wrestling in Mason Dixon league this year (2024) between 87-90 lbs. There are several kids in this category that we have wrestled in VA throughout the year. I am noticing that the VAWA state championships for 8U this year stop at 85lbs with no heavyweight class. Does this mean he and all others in this position cannot compete in 8U and must enter 10U 93lbs weight class? That would be very unfortunate.
It appears there was an 8U HWT class last year but I was told there originally wasn't and VAWA had to be asked to include it. Don't know why every age group doesn't have a HWT class.
