What are y'all's thoughts?
Class 1 and 2 get cut down to CLASS 1 Class 3 and 4 get cut down to CLASS 2 Class 5 and 6 get cut down to CLASS 3
Virginia is starting to get watered down with 98 state champions for all 7 classes combined. There should be no way a team wins a state title by 170 points!!! Classic Example, Great Bridge destroys Class 4 last year, then moves up to Class 5 and places 3rd behind by 43 points.
I honestly think the 3 classes will make Wrestling a lot much better to watch. Wrestlers will be forced not to dodge other wrestlers in any other weight classes since there would be a 32-man bracket. I also think VHSL should bring back Districts. for a qualifier to regions. A state title will also mean a lot more to a college coach.
Question though: 32-man bracket, Place top 6 or top 8? my guess top 8.

Better for the sport. Might even make wrestlers work harder.

It's OK when you look at numbers as a whole but the same issue comes up that the same deeper regions will be killing each other to get to state. Regions like d1 and d2, murderers row trying to get out compared to others. A and B would be the beneficiary to that move. 2B got a little deeper with the addition of Riverheads, but affected the state bracket in 1a hard. half state got better wrestlers to state, but you still have a/b getting wrestlers there easier than c/d. If it were top 8, might would work out better. Not sure what the answer is. Everyone wants it to be better but the first step would be to get it out of salem! Rotate it amongst the Regions. 16 man brackets on 4 mats doesn't take that long despite the vhsl guidance or lack of.

Similar post in the VHSL section (RealityCheck). People making all kinds of excuses why 7 state champs makes sense. Mostly seems like people think everyone deserves a trophy and the real wrestlers will get recruited anyway. That second part may be true, but the false sense of success for those other kids isn't helping them in life. It's likely a moot point because VHSL won't make the change.

Need to have a true super state. Have all “champs” and runner ups face off in a single bracket

Who whould go to a Super State? Great idea, but once you are a senior and have the state championship medal, you're done. Why risk tarnishing that? Not to mention, it's not going to "feel" the same as a state tournament without your team there.
There is a super state in NOVA in a few weeks, just isn't sanctioned. I'd rather see state duals take over district tournaments.

Whoever said trash district tournaments and add state duals, I'm with ya. They are two completely different sets of scoring, we don't need three postseason tournaments with 6 classes.
I'm preferential to duals when it comes to determining a state champ because to me... You have have 3 state champs, a placer, then 10 no so good kids, and place 5th... But are you really the 5th best team if you got rolled in duals all year?
Tough to say, opinions will differ.

I'd rather see state duals take over district tournaments. You take the top 2 from each “state bracket”. It has to be a sanctioned tourney to work. Simply put, it makes the state less watered down and garner more respect nationally. Lastly, anytime you can go against top competition, everyone gets better. This includes elementary kids watching the HS talent. It’s a better more refined product.
