Well well well...Would you look at that. We made it to the week of states... What I learn more and more every day is that I hate the way our current classification system. But i'm preaching to the choir...
Rounded out the second batch of regional championships and there were a few things I saw...
Here are some things I'm looking forward to this week at states including matchups and my prediction for all 7 team champs
I'm sure there's so much more i'm missing across the 98 state championship brackets...But one man can only share but so much brilliance.
What are you looking forward to most this weekend? Matchups? Team races?
BUT before I leave you...a few last things.
1. Be prepared...the big news I've been hinting out all season is coming any day now. I've received approvals from the first line of defense. This will be the biggest thing to happen to VA Wrestling since the VHSL shifted the classes in 2014. BELIEVE THAT!
2. I will have my full list of coach of the year finalist to be voted on in a poll NEXT WEEK! Feel free to submit anyone you believe should be on the ballot!
3. Anyone who posts "calm before the storm" this weekend will be put into forum jail.
4. Following the conclusion of the VHSL season I will be doing a live stream one day next week on social media in which I will call "The State of the Union". If you wish to be a special guest and make an appearance please shoot me a message. Would love to chop it up and share my thoughts with some likeminded individuals.
And for today my friends...That is all.
I wish all the coaches and athletes good luck and good health heading into this weekend. Take nothing for granted and be grateful for this opportunity.

Rounded out the second batch of regional championships and there were a few things I saw...
- Where the heck did William Fleming come from?!? I watched them clean house at region 5C and was impressed with the way they competed. Tough style, gritty wins, and they had some swagger to em! Whoever this coach is (Pardon my ignorance) has officially entered my coach of the year list.
- Landstown tops Grassfield and Cosby at the 6A regional. Nasir Edmonds reverses a state final loss from last year and hands James Bland his first loss of the season at HWT. Grassfield's Nick Moore beats 3x State Champ Eli Cramer from Cosby and will make this week interesting...
- Have you seen the amount of girls that qualified for the boys states this year? I wouldn't be shocked if it was in the double digits! Hats off to these young ladies...women's wrestling has come so far and these ladies came to scrap!
- I didn't notice it until this weekend...3 of the 4 regions in 6A are Fredericksburg and North. 1 region is Richmond and east. Pretty weird makeup.
Here are some things I'm looking forward to this week at states including matchups and my prediction for all 7 team champs
- 6A 106-Carter Shin, Peyton Van Hoven and Royce Wetzler makes for an interesting group. PVH and Royce will meet in the semifinals with a shot to meet Shin in finals. Ive had this on my radar all season!
- 5a 157 - The two best kids in the weight meet in the semifinals. 2x State Champ Caleb Neal from GB will take on Carson Main from Riverbend. Main is a 2x finalist and won two years ago. This will be a fun one
- 3A Team Title - I truly believe Staunton River is the best team in the state top to bottom. But at first glance they only have 9sq compared to New Kent's 13.
- 3A 150 - Noah Nininger is one of the top p4p best wrestlers in the state. Billy Tyler is one of the best young talents in the state. Could we see a massive upset? Or will the upperclassmen hold off the young phenom?
- VISAA Team Title - STC is without a doubt the #1 VISAA Team in the state. Benedictine gave them a run for their money in the dual. PVI was second a year ago and has brought him some fire power to compete.
- 6A 126 - Simon vs Sanders in the semis will be fireworks. Sanders is hungry to finally get a title. Simon is itching to get back to the top of the podium. This one alone is worth the price of admission.
- 6A 285- Nasir Edmonds reversed a state finals loss from last year beating Bland in the regional finals. Throw Joseph Lubinskas into the mix this one could be interesting.
- 5a team title-I think this is a three horse race between Great Bridge, Independence, and Cox BUT...As I mentioned earlier William Fleming looked scrappy at regionals. I'm not saying they'll win...but i think they'll throw a wrench into things.
I'm sure there's so much more i'm missing across the 98 state championship brackets...But one man can only share but so much brilliance.
