106- Wynn avenges his previous week loss beating Witcher 6-5
113- Cooper Brandt showed why hes ranked above Hunter Blosser with a 9-1 win
132- Hicks (northside) improved to 16-1 on the season
144- Cockran had another strong showing despite losing in the finals 2-1 on a TERRIBLE stall call. This would be 3 tournaments in a row with a finals match being decided by just dumb calls. These refs are claiming they are under pressure to call early events stricter to prepare kids for states but someone needs to reel them in.
150- Adon Overstreet of Heritage is really flying under the 150 radar. he improved to 20-1 on the season and was far and away the class of the bracket. It was odd that Angel Rigney was not with Northside at this tournament after winning Big Orange the week before. He may have injured the same knee that sat him out most of last year.
157- Owen Hartman is the real deal and will challenge Barns in 3a. He beat Joel Swanson who was 20-0 on the season
165-After Big Orange there was a question about Wyatt Neel dropping to 65. He did so here but came up short
175- Aidan Armbrust is on the verge of being something special. Hes always had the talent but the mental piece and attitude were lacking. He seems to be putting all that together and after this tournament I believe he can beat Kelly.
285- Drake Garrison had another dominate performance. Pinned everyone in the first period

My notes are:
106 - 2A Wynn won the big match today completely turning around last week's result from Big Orange. Seems like some thought Wynn couldn't get it done, but he wrestled much better and smarter today. Maybe Wynn wasn't at his best last week. After all not every day is a the same for these kids.
113 - Brandt is just a good leg rider who beat another leg rider. He looked like the class of 3A today. I believe he received the MOW.
120 - 2A Forbes won over tough 3A kids again with a 1st period pin in finals.
126 - Porter was dominate in this weight all the way through
132 - Hicks showed no offense in finals. He needs to find offense to compete at state at this weight.
138 - Garland put on a tough ride over 2A Stewart and that was the difference.
144 - Cochran needs to find his offense. I didn't see either wrestler get close to scoring a takedown. No one likes the refs to make the difference in the matches.
150 - Overstreet seemed like he was a step up from others today.
157 - Hartman won 2 to 0. Swanson was close to scoring, but Hartman was good on top. Barns will score and in my opinion is still the favorite. Swanson is very much improved this year and should not be overlooked.
165 - Neel probably should have held on and tried to win it in OT, but was trying to turn Wells. Wells was able reverse him in last few seconds. That match was very close and either could have won.
175 - Armbrust won 4 to 2. He used all his injury time and appeared to be totally gassed late in the match. I didn't see anything to make me believe he would beat Kelly. In fact, with some coaching up I believe the Mcginty kid could beat him next time.

I had to leave after 175. This was a mostly 3A class tournament with a 5A team and a few 2A or 1A teams. There are alot of 3A results to help with rankings.

My take away was the worst Virus of my life. I think 8 people I know are sick today. That being said, I think some kids wrestled well. Others did not. That’s the sport. That’s the lessons we want them to learn. Hope others don’t get what I got from sat..

There is nothing like a wrestling tournament to spread around Covid, Flu, RSV or other illness.
