I feel that there are multiple reasons not to wear a sweat shirt during the drilling and live parts of practice. Reasons: 1) it is difficult to get a good grip on your opponent. 2) The wrestler wearing sheats loose energy quicker. They drag in practice. 3) Practice should not be primarily about loosing weight. I agree with you. I would prefer that wrestlers bring multiple shirts to practice, and change them out if they get too wet. The body shuts down when overheated, they will actually burn more calories in a cooler room because they can work harder for a longer period of time. Of course if the object is just to sweat a lot in a short period of time, then layer up!

It's a double standard. Coaches could not allow their wrestlers to cut any weight, but then they might not be as competitive with their opponents that do cut weight. What I've seen is some coaches turn their back on kids cutting weight except their own kid of course. Weight cutting is and always has been a part of the sport. It goes on at every level and age. The senior level and college wrestlers cut like crazy. We have recently seen where kids at Virginia schools are cutting huge amounts of weight. So wearing sweatshirts is just the tip of the iceberg.

We wear long sleeve T-shirts and spandex shorts and we change into new shirts after each water break. We go through about 70 t-shirts a practice
