Does anyone in the know have an idea how the new 4 divisions would be broken down? Last time they took the requisite number of 1A schools and put them there. The remaining schools were then divided equally to form the remaining higher 5 classifications.
Just wondering if anyone was in the loop...

The latest VHSL meeting notes are on their site. 1A 2A want to stay 6 groups and apparently the rest want some version of 4. It looks to be new 1A is either 350 or 375 and less. And the rest of the schools will be split evenly into 3 groups (2A, 3A, 4A).
My guess:
30-36 school in 1A about 93 schools in each of the other groups 2A pop 375 (Middlesex) - 950 (Staunton River) 3A pop 950 (Rockbridge Co) - 1640 (Potomac Falls) 4A pop 1640 and up
IMHO current 5A and 2A schools would be on the losing end of this new format for wrestling. But it would be much better for the sport overall. There are a lot of political VHSL level goings on before anything comes to fruition, but it appears to have serious momentum from those in the know.

And under that system, it seems as though 1a wrestling schools would only have JI Burton, Castlewood, Rural Retreat, Northwood, Holston, Honaker, Rappahannock,Franklin, Parry McClure, Covington (till they merge with Allegheny), and Galax
Assuming numbers are correct..a state championship of 10 or 11 schools is asinine, they'd have to bump those schools up to class 2 right?

Well for current 2A Poquoson is the only team that traditionally is able to hang with the good wrestling schools in the new 2A like New Kent(although they might be new 3A), Skyline, Brookville, Abingdon, etc. The new 3A would be interesting if New Kent(prob not) and Christiansburg (prob) are there along with Liberty, Eastern View, Great Bridge, Loudoun Co, Kempsville, Woodgrove, Atlee, Hanover, Midlothian, Fauquier, Sherando, etc etc. And that moves into the 5A discussion as it is most likely split between current 4A and 6A teams. Brooke Point, Nansemond River, Cox, Mountian View, etc now are up with Robinson, Oscar Smith, Kellam, Riverbend, and whichever team wins the region with Westfield/Centreville/Chantilly that year in the new 4A. And the 5A teams that drop to the new 3A also have a stacked bracket in most weight classes.
Just my opinion. I'm sure many of the 2A and 5A folks out there might argue. That's why I love this sport, gotta settle it on the mat. But the more I look at it, the more I like some of the brackets that would come out of the new setup. Hope it happens.

Keel, at least from the 2A perspective, I think you're right. It will hurt, and not just in wrestling. It will be like in the old 3A system where 2A was dominated by a few schools (mostly Cburg and Grundy at one time), and a number of the smaller schools just didn't 'belong'. Obviously, you'd have individuals from everywhere make up a great bracket, but from a team standpoint, they really didn't even think they could contend (unless the recruited!). I also heard that the 4A proposal had lost some steam as of late, kinda why I put a feeler out there to see what other people were hearing. Thanks.
Also, thanks for your input warriorswrestling. I kinda figured it would have this type of impact.

I thought that's what you meant, just checking. No argument here, traditionally 2a and 5a have some of the "weaker" programs compared to the others. If traditionally weaker programs want to compete, get better. Sad to see for 1a if it works out that way. That'd be worse than the 1a tournament this year and it was sadddd
