I was at the Civic Center (on the other end from the meeting) when they had the referee meeting last Thursday. It lasted about an hour and I saw them go over many points with actual training on the mat. So to say there was no training is not valid. The past few years there have been issues with getting enough reffs as about every other company, business, government has had as well. Everyone needs workers and more skilled workers. Until some of the experts on here start applying to ref the best selected for state may not be as good as they could be. And there it is! Everyone should be a ref comment...No one said No Training. You helped validate my point. Why should they need training at the state tournament? Shouldn't they already be trained to be able to ref at this level? Comon' man, as much as you comment on here, you know better than that. You know what good wrestling is/isn't. Or, you act like you do anyways.

Right guy probably won at 157 ultimately..Talk about 175 now. The Union kid was getting hands to the face all day, no call. Glenvar kid went to his corner and got a drink without any ref signaling for injury time or blood time until after the drink. This is a 1 point violation. The ref was clueless and caused a kid a match. Not to mention giving a stalling call in that type of match only on the Union kid. End of story. Do we even want to bring up the 106 finals that got things started? Battle kid was doing everything for almost 4 whole mins. Dominating him. The ref stopped the match 3-4 times and gave a restart for the James River. kid. It was a basic leg and power half. The river kid couldn't take it. It was no where near potentially dangerous. After the "injury time" the Battle kid started working on the other arm. As soon as the River kid was about to get turned, the ref stopped it. River kid layed on his belly the whole time, no stalling. Get outta here with this BS reffing. He allowed the River kid back in the match multiple times and caused another kid a state ring. Lets no bring up the James River celebration....That parent should be banned from the Civiv Center for life. That's classless like the saying goes "flocks of a feather".. Why don’t we bring up the 106 celebration? It was glorious. What a way to end a season. A father and son sharing a moment together. Countless hours, practices, and grit to get past a dislocated shoulder. In the match the Battle kid rode his bad shoulder, causing it to dislocate multiple times. Nowhere close to even breaking a 45 to get back points. That alone shows that the River kid was fighting thru the pain and trying not to get pinned. Ref called it once it was actually potentially dangerous, not because of the shrieks of pain on the shoulder. More people need to learn some background info before trying to talk. Congrats to everyone on a great season. Can’t wait to watch it all go down again next year. Mommy and daddy should stay off the mat. A state championship is great experience but we dont need the 300 or so parents of all the champs we have in Virginia acting like buffoons

I heard the buffoon from river is actually one of the coaches, but didn’t coach his own son, so congrats on the W. As for the “bad shoulder” rumor is kid needs surgery from dislocations. Be proud dad time and effort on so many levels.

I've seen his shoulder pop out about as many times as I've seen him pin kids this winter. Its def been an ongoing issue. Stopping title matches to pop it back in and win at this point is routine.

But when your son wins a title, and you are a legal VHSL coach (WITH a COACHES wristband on) You should give you son a huge hug and get thrown by him. It’s just a sign of father(WHO IS A COACH) and a son who had a great comeback after a shoulder dislocation (which DOES need surgery) that love eachother. And P.S. to all y’all who didn’t watch the 106 match even though you claim you did. The main thing he was doing was a power half to the hurt side and cranking in hopes of hurting him. Once again congrats to everyone on a great season. Sorry for ranting. I don’t know why I get so into arguments about a team or wrestler that isn’t even mine. I just respect that kid a lot.

What if, he had hung his toe on the table and face planted or the popo tazed him? Give him props on the athleticism, but what a goofball. He's got potential to be a great streaker.

Apparently the James River squad is out of the woodwork. Always starts one way with a conversation then goes to something else to feed their agenda. Kinda like the media. Was he a coach that stormed the mat or a parent? or was he a coach/parent? JR said his coaches knew nothing about it. If this is a case, it's a lie. If he is a coach/parent.
Now the kid needs surgery on his shoulder? This is a sad if true. The kid is a good wrestler who we wish the best for and speedy recovery if true.
However, are you all saying:
1. If wrestler A has a shoulder brace, knee brace, neck brace, ankle brace, elbow brace or whatever; Then wrestler B has to change his style of wrestling to accommodate Wrestler A's injuries? 2. Should a referee call what normally would not be called potentially dangerous situations as potentially dangerous due to Wrestler A wearing such brace?
Listen, wrestling hurts at times. The legs guillotine is a prime example, as is the split and spladle. This is why kids get pinned from these moves. If no moves cause slight discomfort, no one would ever get pinned. What's next, no more mat returns?
In order to Wynn, you all can cry me a James River.
Just my 2 cents.

All in all the refs were pretty decent. The two refs in the Long / Cline were horrible but in saying that I dont believe they cost Long the match. As an outsider I personnally think Cline was the better wrestler. Those two refs were horrible for the entire tournament. They had no ides what a merkel was,and after the match you could see the other refs telling them what a merkle was. I had the privilage of seeing these two refs during the season and they were equally as bad then.

The coaches on the mat or fans had no idea this was going to happen. You could ask the ones that actually did the deed if they planned it or it was spur of the moment. In the future, if you have a question just ask. Don't make accusations. I'll end by saying that the video that went viral should have been the one showing the kid's shoulder being pulled back in after it popped out and then he went back out and pinned his opponent to win states. The James River 106 was the best in 2A this year and he worked very hard the past few years to get to that level.

Forbes 2a 113 impressed me none, I expected more RULES OF THIS FORUM 1. No personal attacks. Your first post and you are being disrespectful to a wrestler that placed 4th in state and 5th the year before. Please remove this post now.

Its an opinion honestly that isn’t really an attack on the kid. Wrestling is a tough sport that requires slightly thicker skin. He’s a good kid and a good wrestler
