Friday 6:30 at Benedictine, predicting a blow out but hopefully Benedictine proves me wrong. Would love to see some good matches, hopefully we get a barn burner at 138

I'm looking forward to Arbogast vs Turley at 132, as well. Turley looks really tough. Looks very confident...like his brother. STC is loaded. BCP is tough in a couple spots, too. Besides Arbogast and Foard, I think R. Foldes is gonna be really good. BCP has to get some kids back from injuries. Don't think that will change the outcome of the dual, but they have been missing some kids for a long time, it seems. STC is primed to win this Friday and take states pretty easily. Also, I'd like to see a good showing for all VISAA kids at Preps!
Speaking of injuries...what is it these days? It seems like kids are missing so many more matches nowadays due to injury. Way more than they did even 5 or 6 years ago. Is it something in the water? Did Covid increase mental weakness? What's up? It used to be that kids understood the difference between being hurt and being injured. I don't know a wrestler out there that isn't 'hurt' for much of the wrestling season. It's part of the sport. It's part of a lot of sports. I am certainly not advocating that an athlete wrestle when they could incur further damage to an injury. However, like I said before, being 'hurt' is kinda part of the deal when you're wrestling. Heck...as a fan, it hurts me just watching some of the stuff those kids go through. Just curious what y'all think.

I think part of it is that we have progressed beyond placing a positive value on participating injured. Injury prevention and rehabilitation has really improved over the last ten years and although athletes are being pulled quicker from competition then in the past, they are also returning much quicker from what used to be season or career ending injuries. There are other factors at play. Athletes are much stronger and faster every year, and funk is embraced. Both of these trends increase the potential for injury. Off-season tournaments have evolved, so year-round wrestlers aren't effected as much from missing 3 weeks in January as they used to be. Our best wrestlers are pretty tough IMHO, so I don't think that is the issue. Maybe their toughness and obsession results in an uptick in injuries that require a break to recover from.

All good points. That brings up another issue...do you think that wrestlers are prioritizing their off-season club teams over their high school teams? If so, that disappoints me. I have always seen the two working together, however, I have felt a greater love and commitment to the school teams. For the upper level wrestler, I believe the goal is to wrestle at the next level. With the exception of Super 32, the high profile tournaments are during the school season. From a coach friend, I heard a wrestler say that they wanted to nurse their injury because they didn't want to jeopardize their freestyle season. That really surprised me.
But back to the original issue...again, if a wrestler is injured, then great...do what is necessary to get back to 100%. However, if a wrestler has muscle soreness, then get out their and do it for the team! This may be generational, but very frustrating to me.

I'm sure it happens on occasion, but all the year-round wrestlers I'm around care a lot about their high school team's success.

I'm sure this was a great dual. Does anyone know where to find the results of this match? Any upsets or barnburner matches in this one?

Tried to send the link but it doesn't work. It can be found under seasons/national preps/teams in trackwrestling.

I think this went pretty much as expected. STC won all but 3 matches. BCP has gotta find some upper weights. They gave up 24 points in forfeits. I liked how they saved the fireworks until the end. Turley handled Arbogast. Upset?...maybe...maybe not. And the rematch of C. Roggie and Foard. A lot of fun. Foard's motor never stops. Roggie left with a hurt shoulder. I hope he is ok.
STC has a good number of possible Prep National Placers...Haney, D. Roggie, Parker, Turley, C. Roggie, Hood, Faglioni, and Finck...all have a really good shot. Team should place in top 10. BCP could/should place Arbogast and Foard.
It was a fun night. The new gym at Benedictine is awesome! Looking forward to states.
