Greetings 5A wrestling fans! Below you will find the updated rankings that include significant wins (against VA wrestlers only) and the outlook for each weight class. Some wrestlers are still moving around weight classes so these are not set in stone, however I think for the most part they are accurate representations as to where wrestlers will be once the post-season starts. I spent some time digging through Track and Flo to make sure that I did not miss anyone who deserved to make the list. If there is someone that I missed who should be an “obvious” addition please send me a message letting me know. The significant wins for the most part are VHSL schools (no out of state schools).
NOTE: Some weight classes will only have 5 wrestlers ranked whereas others will have 6. This is based upon the “Talent” in the weight class.

This should be a fun weight class to watch at the state tournament.

OUTLOOK
Without a doubt one of the most loaded weight classes in 5A. Lewis is a 2X state finalist (Nans did not compete last year in state tournament or most likely would have been a 3X state finalist) and has impressive wins this season. Hipolito was an Alabama State Champ in 2021 and has impressive victories this season while also placing 4th at Escape the Rock. Mainz has an impressive win against #1 Gordon (6A South County) while also getting the head-to-head last week vs Bell. Mainz also upset the #1 seed at Beast of East. This will be a fun one to watch! Region 5D is stacked at this weight class.

Without a doubt one of the most loaded weight classes in 5A. Lewis is a 2X state finalist (Nans did not compete last year in state tournament or most likely would have been a 3X state finalist) and has impressive wins this season. Hipolito was an Alabama State Champ in 2021 and has impressive victories this season while also placing 4th at Escape the Rock. Mainz has an impressive win against #1 Gordon (6A South County) while also getting the head-to-head last week vs Bell. Mainz also upset the #1 seed at Beast of East. This will be a fun one to watch! Region 5D is stacked at this weight class.

If either one wrestles at this weight in the post season it will make this a bracket to watch come state tournament time especially if team placement is on the line.
