I doubt the 5 tournament rule will ever be overturned because it's the new "equity rule". Some schools complained that the rich schools had money to attend many tournaments and others didn't have money to go to tournaments and it wasn't fair. This is the dumbest rule. We are a poor school and do tournaments. Its called fundraising. The school cant afford to pay for us to do what we do.

But I haven’t met any of them yet. Can’t find hardly anyone that likes this rule but VHSL is going to do what they want to do unfortunately. Even if the majority doesn’t want it.

It should be let team do what they want. Going to a Tri on Saturday is a waster of time. Let the team choose if they want to do a 2 day dual tourney or just a Tri or Quad. Limiting teams to only 5 tourneys is ridiculous

Were the teams that fell behind New Kent having guys compete at any other tournaments? I think in that case, an exception should be made. It would be like penalizing teams for losing this coming weekend when half or full varsity teams are at beast.
If a team is banged up, hurt, missing weight, whatever.. that falls on the shoulders of the team. Fill in and compete. The way these weigh ins work this year, it may be rare to see a team full. An injury doesn't stop another team from taking advantage and winning a state tournament.
So, I'm only one vote and the rankings aren't mine, but I do speak with stopstalling and fully believe unless the top line is true, New Kent should be considered in favor of those teams.
To flip that around, Skyline was short handed and with how that tournament is scored, 3 wrestlers may have closed the gap between them and Woodgrove. Already put in my vote for Woodgrove in that example as well.
So no, I am not partial to 3a schools. Call it like I see it and try to stay consistent unless my eyes are really telling me a different story than common sense, lol.

NK had a great tournament, but I don't think these rankings are strictly based on week one results. Either way, I think NK deserves to make the list, but to move them ahead of teams that competed with fewer wrestlers and still scored similar team points doesn't necessarily make sense.

Maybe i'm unbiased here...but how do you have Grundy at #5? 6 but this will be updated bi weekly. After Woodgroves performance at elite opener and New Kent proving to be able to “coach them up”. Things will change with the next update. As for Grundy, they have 6 returning state champs and have added Talan Hall, 2A state champ in from 2022. They will be at Old Dominion Powerade and Va Duals so we’ll have a few opportunities to see them against other good Va teams.

I really wish VAWA would organize some sort of dual tournament or even just a Private vs. public championship, would be very fun and entertaining We did! it is called the dominion Cup. Last year was the inaugural year and had a great turnout with several top teams and Riverbend winning. initially only the top teams in every division were invited but backups were put in due to schedule conflicts... the future is even more uncertain after this new rule has restricted our scheduling ability. Our second Annual is Jan 6th and will play host to a super quad at the same time... more to follow... Roberts

They're not based on one week, but we can't hold New Kent accountable for St Chris kids not showing up. This is high school wrestling, not the NCAA.

The rankings are a bit out of date. Kellam smashed Princess Anne and First Colonial, while systematically dismantling Cox and Ocean Lakes. Great Bridge remains tough, but 6a is going to be interesting this year. Will be updated bi weekly, so after this weekend we will update the team rankings

Roberts Cool and all but by holding it on Jan 6 that means neither Mountain View or St Chris will participate (arguably 2 of the top 4 teams in the state), it should be following state tournaments Agree, a post states all class tournament is needed (and it's been tried). But getting seniors to attend those events is an issue, especially those who win/place at states. There's no incentive for them at that point. VHSL simply needs to model other states and adopt a single Tournament or at most 2. Having essentially 7 state championship including VISAA is insane. Fortunately for the VISAA crowd, there's Prep Nationals.

I am going to have to look at some Kellam box scores it sounds like. I remember thinking them and Grassfield could be vastly improved this season.
Reminder to self to use the term "systemically dismantled" if I win in fantasy football this weekend.

King of the Rock tournament Strasburg looked like a top 5 team in the entire state. They had 9 place winners and out scored #13 ,#10, and #5 ranked teams according to the rankings.

So while it's imo that teams shouldn't be penalized for beating other teams that have guys out, it's very clear Woodgrove was missing around 60 points or so from that tournament in their lineup.
Very excited to see how Strasburg does next week at Trojan Wars. Big opportunity for them to climb the ladder in my opinion.
